Event photography at APX 2026:
free tomorrow?
Are you free tomorrow for an event shoot? That one question was how APX 2026 started for me: the motorsport day of Olivér Ámon and Amon Productions at Black Star Speedway in Visonta, Hungary. As the event photographer I spent the whole day on the track and in the pit lane. Here is who I watch for at an event like this, and how the photos reach the organisers fast.
If I am free, I go
My answer to that question is usually yes. Unless the day is already booked with a shoot, another photo job, family or sport with friends, I go.
That only works if I am always ready to leave. My kit is charged and organised, so a last-minute job does not mean hours of packing. With APX it went exactly like that: they asked one day, and the next day I was at the track.
APX 2026: Olivér Ámon's motorsport day
APX is the biggest event of Amon Productions. In 2026 it took place on Saturday 2 May at Black Star Speedway in Visonta, from 10 am to 6 pm. Olivér Ámon is a well-known figure of Hungarian drifting and a popular car content creator. His legendary cars were all on track: the C600, the Terrudi, the Yaris, the Raptor and the Tesla, with experience drives and drift taxi rides.
There was also a helicopter, an RC off-road course, race tech on display and motocross jumps, with lots of families. At a sports event like this the photographer has to catch the big action and the small human moments at the same time.
Who must be in the pictures?
Every event shoot starts the same way for me: I find out who the key people are. The organisers, the performers, the famous guests and, at a motorsport event, the drivers. They need great pictures, because the report, the press kit and the sponsors all need them.
I have worked in the Hungarian motorsport scene for years, so I knew who to focus on. Dani Nagy and Péter Janklovics were definitely covered, and so were the other drivers I knew from earlier jobs.

Knowing what will happen next
Sometimes I set up a moment and ask someone to stand a certain way, because the picture tells more. But the best event photos happen in motion, so I do not wait for posed shots. I think ahead about what will happen in the next minute, and I want to be there.
A good example is Olivér Ámon's walk down the pit lane. I knew the face and main organiser of the event would walk it, so I got in position early and shot him from the front and from behind. The shot from behind mattered because the main sponsor, ENEOS, had a large logo on the back of his race suit. Sponsors need to be clearly visible at the event and in the communication afterwards.
The same evening and the next evening
Event day
I am on site all day, already deciding which pictures need to go out first.
Same evening: 20 photos
A first selection of 20 went out that evening, so the organisers could post while the buzz was still fresh.
Next evening: about 150 more
Colour graded and ready to post on social media straight away.
